MANAGERIAL LEADERSHIP PRACTICES

WHAT IS LEADERSHIP

Leadership is that process in which one person sets the purpose or direction for one or more other persons, and gets them to move along together with him or her in that direction with competence and full commitment.

MANAGERIAL LEADERSHIP PRACTICES

These practices are the product of a long process of research and of acquired experience on the actual performance of the managerial function. They combine the scientific bases of Requisite Organization theory with the enlightened comprehension of these processes obtained by executives working at the highest organizational levels along the years.

What they do is define in a simple and precise manner what a manager should do in order to ensure his or her leadership on his or her work team. To ensure leadership, the actual performance of these practices must be a primary managerial accountability.

The Managerial Leadership Practices are:

  • Managerial team work
  • Context setting
  • Managerial planning
  • Task assignment
  • Evaluation of effectiveness
  • Decision on compensation within the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Induction and coaching.
  • Continuous improvement.

These are the practices of direct managers. Managers two levels up (Managers-once-removed) should in turn comply with the following practices.

  • Evaluation of Current Potential Capability
  • Mentoring
